Level 2 Country: UK UK CPD MINUTES: 90

If you have large groups of learners requiring this training we encourage the use of online training.

Description & Learning objectives

Social workers are required to make effective use of tools that give a holistic picture of the child’s family and note significant events in the child’s life. This requires appropriate logging of the relevant information and mapping of the child’s life journey, with the inclusion of the key people in that child’s life, in order to formulate assessments and undertake risk management for each case.

The course will look at the similarities and differences of ecomaps and genograms, their practical application, and their relevance in the child’s journey, utilising the principles of the signs of safety model.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To understand the need to keep accurate and up-to-date chronologies
  • To know how to use chronologies as a live tool to formulate assessment
  • To understand patterns and risk in the life of the child with a view to making a constructive adjustment to the child’s life journey plans
  • To know the difference between genograms and ecomaps
  • To know what genograms are and how they are used in social work
  • To know how to work with genograms in a systemic way
