Description & Learning objectives

Using both a theoretical perspective as well as focusing on practical applications, the course will allow carers to understand the signs of poor attachment and what the impact of this may be in terms of behaviour and emotional well-being. The course will also look at Erikson’s psychosocial theory and its impact on children/young people and their socialisation.

  • To be aware of the impact of poor attachment in the early years and beyond
  • To explore Bowlby’s and Ainsworth’s attachment theories
  • To explore Erikson’s psychosocial theory and other theories that conflict with attachment theory
  • To understand attachment in relation to carers, and to know strategies for promoting positive attachments

This course is specifically for employees who work within Leaving Care and is fully CPD accredited.
